When was the last time you had a physical? Decided after 2 years it was time for me to go again. Overall I am healthy and rarely get sick. But I know I am intolerant to some foods. I can pinpoint certain ones but others I cannot. I have been considering doing an elimination diet or going dairy or gluten free.
While reading both Practical Paleo and Grain Brain I learned about FODMAPs. Ever heard of them? FODMAPs stand for fermentable-olio-dimonosaccarides-and-polyols. They are types of carbohydrates in different foods that can be difficult for some people to digest, resulting in symptoms varying from gas and bloating to IBS-like responses of diarrhea, constipation or a combination/alteration of the two. I know I react to some of these foods.
Today at my physical, I requested a Cyrex Array 4 test. Dr had never heard of it. I was surprise. This test measures sensitivities to 24 "cross-reactive" foods (foods that a gluten-sensitve individual may also react).
The Dr also had never heard of FODMAPS. Not surprised because most physicians have very limited nutrition knowledge. Other foods also high in FODMAPS include many healthy foods like- artichokes, asparagus, beets, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, eggplant, fennel, garlic, green onions, jicama, leeks, mushrooms, okra, onions, peppers, shallots, Sunchokes, apples, apricots, avocados, blackberries, cherries, figs, mangoes, nectarines, peaches, pears, plums, watermelon, chicory, horseradish, wasabi, onion powder, coconut butter, shredded coconut, coconut aminos, apple cider vinegar, pistachios.
Hoping that I can get a Dr request for the test. Still will need to do elimination of the fruit and veggie FODMAPS.
Anyone have any experience with either the Cyrex array 4 test or FODMAPS?
